Sorry, but I have to let off steam somewhere. A typical example of how the only person you can really trust is yourself.
Last Saturday, the Kybosh played the Harbour Bar in Bray. Relatively small venue, only 100 or so, but they pay very well and it helps fund other things, such as CD production, posters, t-shirts and venue hire. The place itself is popular, so it gets our name out a bit, and even though it's not great as a venue and the sound is very poor, it's still pretty tight and usually a fun place to play for a local crowd.
The gig on Saturday had a few technical problems, mainly down to their PA system predating time itself, but the crowd loved it and the band were swamped afterwards with strangers telling them it was the best gig they'd seen in the Harbour Bar ("I've seen so much shite on down here, it's great to see something I can get excited about"). Problem was, we finished at 11:30 instead of 12:00 when we were supposed to wrap up; we were told, an hour before we began, that the set time was now 2 hours, not an hour and a half, as the lads had rehearsed for. This meant that the start time was now 10 instead of 10:30, which fecked us up dearly - not aided by the fact that our support act, Minus Circus, had to wrap early because of yet another technical problem in the venue.
When questioned by the manager afterwards, though, I explained there'd been a mix up and my reasons were accepted; one of the managers had said an hour and a half, the lads had practiced for that length and then we were told of the format change, by a different manager, a bit too late. A mix-up; it happens. The main thing was, we played a good gig and he was delighted with how it went.
So tonight, I went down to talk to yet ANOTHER manager in order to book the lads a few more gigs there, for around the time of the single release.
"Not a chance", I was told. "You played an hour the last night when you should have played two".
"Actually, we played just under an hour and a half; the same set length as the last time we played here, and nobody had a problem with that."
"I don't care. You lost me a lot of money that night and your band isn't welcome here any more."
"But we were told an hour and a half..."
"Look, that's the last I'll say on it. Off you go now"
And with that, he proceeded to ask me to leave the pub.
I am absolutely, insanely livid. A lost opportunity like that, all because nobody knows who's calling the shots down there. And that's not even to mention that this little confrontation took place in front of the entire occupancy of the bar.
What a bloody joke of a place. My deputy local, it is no longer.

That's a shame about the mix up, but look on the bright side..at least the band got a good reaction. |

| Yes Anne, but it went on fire BECAUSE you worked there... trying to put out candles with vodka was just silly, really. Or trying to blow them out when you'd just downed a triple. |

| Ha, I just remembered this thread. Almost a year old now, and that place has since become my first-choice local through and through. I misjudged them! Best pub ever. |

| Well I've moved out of Bray, but it's still my favourite pub in the world! I head in for a pint whenever I'm back. Oh I truly did misjudge that place... |
